If you're looking for a reliable U.S. source of top-quality intumescent firestopping -- or your customers' specialized needs require custom solutions -- you will find an ideal partner in ZERO.

We produce our
INTUMET™ intumescent material and manufacture our firestopping products right at our U.S. headquarters in Bronx, N.Y. In fact, we are the ONLY major U.S. intumescent manufacturer.

Our location and capabilities offer a unique package of benefits for our OEM (original equipment manufacturer) partners in the U.S.:

immediate availability of standard materials and products
fast turnaround on custom orders
economical pricing
predictable costs -- no variables from currency exchange fluctuations

Intumescence for Every Application

We also offer unsurpassed value through our advanced proprietary intumescent technology. See Physical Properties chart below for details about our standard intumescent formulations.

ZERO's
SOFT PUFF INTUMET™ is a rubber-matrix material that begins intumescing at the relatively low temperatures where organic materials begin to emit combustible and noxious gases. It expands gradually with low force and forms a firm char. For applications that call for more forceful expansion at higher temperatures, you can choose from several standard INTUMET™ HARD PUFF materials. See Material Definitions table below for a  comparison.

The bottom line is intumescent technology that allows virtually unlimited product design flexibility. Working with OEM partners, we continue to develop customized intumescent formulations. If you need something special, let's talk about it.

ZERO's firestopping capabilities include:
Pipe wraps
Sprays and paints
Tubing for electrical box fire containment
Tape
Impregnated paper
Cable protection
Expansion joint seals
Soffit protection for firestorm regions

Firestopping for New and Retrofit Construction

ZERO welcomes inquiries from any building team member for assistance in solving fire protection challenges in
firewalls, as well as electrical and plumbing through-penetrations.

We can work with you to refine or overhaul product design to satisfy code requirements or testing agency parameters. We can also collaborate in testing for F ratings (flame penetration), T ratings (temperature rise) and L ratings (air leakage) under U.S. standards:

ASTM International E 814 Standard Test Method for Fire Tests of Through-Penetration Fire Stops
Underwriters Laboratories UL 1479, Standard for Fire Tests of Through-Penetration Fire stops

Firestopping Wherever You Need It

We are actively seeking OEM partners for cooperative research, development and testing to explore applications of mutual interest. Contact us to discuss opportunities for innovative, cost-effective fireproofing solutions for any industry, including:

Shipbuilding
Bridge-building

Begins to expand at 450°F (232°C), forming a very hard char that binds to glass and metal.
Very little expansion (2-3 time its volume).

FS2002

Hard Puff Brown 27 PSI
(0.0187 N/mm2)
Very Good

Begins to expand at 350°F (176°C), forming a very hard char. Relatively little expansion (6-8 times its volume)

FS3003

Soft Puff Black 27 PSI
(0.0187 N/mm2)
Very Good

Begins to expand at 250°F (121°C), forming a hard char. High expansion (20 time its volume)

FS4004

Hard Puff Silver, Gray 131 PSI
(0.09 N/mm2)
Poor

Graphite-based. Begins to expand at 550°F (288°C), forming a very soft and fluffy char.

INTUMET Material Definitions

SOFT PUFF™ begins intumescing at relatively low temperatures. Expands gradually with low force and forms a firm char. It has a reservoir for continued expansion. HARD PUFF begins intumescing at higher temperatures. Expands with strong force.  It has a high intumescent capacity, dissipating char, but no reservoir for additional expansion.
